When I was little, I watched the X-Men cartoon in the mornings. I dreamed of being a superhero--of having the strength and abilities to protect that which needs protection and vanquishing evil.
I have since learned that the actual 'vanquishing' of evil is not my responsibility, but the fight for social justice is. I can save the world. I can be a superhero. All I have to do is make the choices that are harder to make. To be a superhero, one must act.
Superman didn't stand by and watch innocent lives suffer in his city.
Spiderman didn't let evil take over his home turf.
Batman refused to let crime overrun Gotham.
Wonder Woman fought continually for social justice.
These superheroes acted within their cities and yet their actions were considered to be of global impact.
